The never-ending story starring Tesla
Martin Tripp, the self-proclaimed Tesla whistleblower also known as the “saboteur” according to Elon Musk, has resurfaced. This time he presents vehicle identification numbers (VIN) of Model 3 vehicles, which he claimed were delivered with faulty battery cells.
While this might feel as if “The Nothing” is approaching ever faster, some allegations point to Tesla having indeed “reworked” these cells. Yet they deny any safety issues.
While the claims from the whistleblower seem more grounded and more removed from his departure from the company, the relationship between the two has not improved. This time, Tripp accompanied his claims with photographs and a more detailed description of what he claims to have witnessed.
Tripp says to have witnessed faulty batteries being covered up with a cosmetic solution before being reintegrated into the vehicles, without another quality assurance test. The photographs and detailed list of VINs do lend him credence, but the Twitter row between the whistleblower and CEO Musk is anything but mature.
Tesla has responded to the claims, stating that “As we’ve said before, these claims are false and Mr. Tripp does not even have personal knowledge about the safety claims that he is making. No punctured cells have ever been used in any Model 3 vehicles in any way, and all VINs that have been identified have safe batteries. Notably, there have been zero battery safety issues in any Model 3.”
