Tesla sets up new R&D center in Beijing
Tesla has built a new research and development center in Beijing, which they are calling the Beijing Technology Innovation Center. The registration for the facility with the local government goes back to October 2017.
This was stated by Ren Yuxiang, vice president of Tesla Motors, as part of an interview with a Beijing news medium. The establishment of the R&D centre will focus on developing electric vehicles, parts and supplies, batteries, energy storage and information technology.
Next to the facility in Beijing, Tesla is also present in Shanghai: On the 10th of May this year, the Californians opened their China subsidiary there. Tesla (Shanghai) Co Ltd is seated in the free trade zone south of Shanghai and will help facilitate the planned Tesla factory that will be built there. This will be built, according to the most recent reports, in Lingang New City, a planned city in the Shanghai district of Pudong, and will have a production capacity of 500,000 vehicles per year. Tesla plans to begin production within two years.
Beijing will not be forgotten in the deal, however. Tesla opened their first Chinese store there in 2013, which has grown to seven experience and six service centers.
