Who would kick this tiny robot?

Amongst fears that machines will take over the world, it appears as if robots may have more to fear from us than we from them. Take the tiny food delivery bots by Starship Technologies that get a kicking once in a while.

Just like that. The company files those incidents as “anger management” – misguided or not – and says, that more serious incidents would be prevented, or traced back at least.

While the tiny machines can do nothing but roll on when kicked, their cameras can record what is happening to them and they got little sirens to make some screaming noise. So if anyone were to try to give one a real kicking, they are also equipped with tracking to within an inch.

Still, vicious attacks have been rare so far. A spokesperson for Starship Technologies told Business Insider that out of the 15 million people the robots have encountered so far, 80% of people just ignored it, and the majority of the interactions were “extremely positive”.

Starship Technologies was launched in 2014 by Skype cofounders Ahti Heinla and Janus Friis. Their small robots roll along the pavement at 4mph delivering food to people.
