PSA selects partner for mild-hybrid technology
French PSA has selected Punch Powertrain to supply its transmission systems by 2022 as part of the group’s electrification push. Their transmission will equip mild-hybrid vehicles and the partners are discussing an extension of their cooperation.
Not unlike Volkswagen that needs to electrify their range en masse, PSA too is turning to mild-hybridisation. Punch Powertrain has patented their dual clutch transmission design, which allows for fewer components, and hence a lighter and more compact transmission system, according to PSA.
The transmission called hybrid DT2 features a 48V motor and will equip Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicles (MHEV) by PSA from 2022. They will possibly be made at one of PSA’s group’s plants and an ever closer cooperation is being discussed as well.
Punch Powertrain is a Belgian company owned by the Chinese Yinyi Group.
