Tesla Falcon wing doors are not for flying
A Tesla Model X went bust in the Netherlands as the EV maker’s most expensive model crushed into a canal, where it sank after a short period of floating. Both the owner and later the car could be retrieved, the latter with its wing doors doors wide open.
The incident took place Dutch city of Schiedam. Why the Tesla Model X had landed in the canal in the first place remains unclear but reports suggest the driver had been to a bar.
The driver was fortunately able to free himself before the worst happened, and remained uninjured. Still he then had to watch his brand new 140,000 euro investment sink to the bottom of the canal.
Images of the Tesla sinking deeper and deeper to the point of complete submersion got widely shared on the internet and of course commented about. While Elon Musk used to say that a Tesla floats for some time like a boat, this is definitely not true for the Model X.
Another issue under discussion was the question Why the wing doors opened at some point of the underwater ordeal. The reason remains unknown but it seems clear that the Model X does not qualify as submarine either.
The Tesla has been retrieved from the water.
