Bosch begins building €1BN chip factory in Dresden
The Silicon Saxony or Saxony Valley welcomes a new player in town as Bosch starts construction of its chip factory in Dresden as planned. It will mainly produce processors to serve e-mobility and is the largest investment in the company’s history.
The ground that has been broken measures 100,000 square metres and is in close proximity to the airport. Saxony has been dubbed the Saxony Valley to conjure up likeness with California’s richest success story.
For Bosch, the location means space and neighbours such as VW and BMW building electric cars there. The VW factory in Dresden for example will not only host the e-Golf production in future, but will also be producing EVs from the I.D class.
Bosch is to start making chips and processors in Dresden from 2021 and plans to employ a 700 strong workforce.
