Honda brings next generation Insight to New York
Honda is set to reveal the serial version of the new Insight at the New York Auto Show this week. The hybrid vehicle will be available as of early summer 2018 and will be powered by a two-motor hybrid system designed by Honda.
The compact premium sedan will take a price slot between the Honda Civic and the Honda Accord. This model also presents the fifth hybrid model that Honda has presented within the span of a year. The Insight is based on the same platform as the Civic.
The now third generation of the Honda hybrid system combines a 1.5 liter combustion engine with an electric motor that boasts a 111 kW performance. Consumption in city traffic is estimated at 4.27 liters per 100 km. In normal driving mode, the Insight can do short distances up to 1.6 km entirely on its electric motor, otherwise the electric motor works as a support for the combustion engine.
The Insight will be produced in Greensburg, Indiana, alongside the Civic and the CR-V. The batteries will be delivered from Marysville, Ohio.
