BYD and Marcopolo reveal new electric bus D9W
The Chinese vehicle manufacturer BYD has begun producing buses in Brazil, and presented a new electric bus model, made in cooperation with Marcopolo, in the Brazilian capital Brasilia.
The new model, called the D9W, uses a BYD chassis in combination with a Marcopolo cab. It was presented as a part of the 8th World Forum on Water in Brasilia. As a part of the presentation, the district governor also announced plans to implement subsidies for purely electric vehicles.
The D9W is 13.2 meters long, and will have a range of around 300 km. The chassis will be produced in BYD’s new factory in Campinas, an industry city near Sao Paolo. The plan to set up a production facility there was announced by BYD in 2014. One year later, BYD signed a cooperation agreement with Marcopolo, the largest local bodywork maker. BYD’s line of electric taxis are also quite popular in Brazil.
