Polestar 1 available for pre-order in 18 countries
Polestar 1, the first model to be made by Volvo’s EV label, is now available for pre-order in 18 countries. When placing their reservation, potential customers can use a configurator to visually render their purchase.
The car can now be pre-ordered, with the provision of a 2,500 euro down payment in China, the USA, Canada, Germany, England, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Spain, France, Portugal, Poland, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Belgium.
After the premiere in Shanghai a year ago, the Polestar 1 celebrated its European debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
The two electric motors, which power the rear axle via a planetary gear, have a combined performance of 160 kW (218 PS). Combined with a four cylinder gas motor from Volvo, the plug-in hybrid managed a system performance of 441 kW (600 PS) and 1,000 nM torque. This allows for a range of 150 km. The Polestar 1 is based on scalable product architecture (SPA) by Volvo, however about 50% of the parts are newly designed. The 2+2 seater will be produced in Chinese Chengdu.
Polestar is skipping regular vehicle ownership, instead opting for a model where buyers can lease a model for 2-3 years. The cars will only be available to order online. This also precludes a down-payment. In the fixed monthly payment, Polestar included the fees for delivery and pick-up services, as well as the option to rent an alternative vehicle by Volvo and Polestar. It seems Volvo is planning to feel out the demand through the quantity of pre-orders.
