Tesla Model S beats premium carmakers in Europe
A total of 16,132 Model S were sold in Europe during 2017, meaning Tesla has been outselling the continent’s established premium manufacturers such as Mercedes or BMW with their S-Class or 7 series respectively. And by a couple of thousand units.
Exactly 16,132 Tesla S models were sold in Europe throughout last year, according to the market research institute Jato. That is 30% more than the previous year, and places the Californian brand solid ahead of the local Mercedes (12,259 S-Class sales) and BMW (11,735 7 Series) in terms of numbers.
Tesla has also been attacking the SUV segment as the Model X as sold around 12,000 times in Europe during 2017, putting it on the same level as the Porsche Cayenne, and ahead of the BMW X6.
Clearly,Tesla is not only mixing up the market in the United States of America but in the old world as well s they have begun to move in on the European car manufacturers market positions. These latest count marks a departure from past figures as it is the first time that the luxury vehicle producers have had to share the spotlight with an electric vehicle.
According to the newest ZSW statistics, there were around 194,000 Model S being driven around the world in 2017, and 45,000 of those were registered in that same year. Tesla was the most successful in their home market of the USA, where they managed sales of around 28,000 EVs.
