GAC wants to target the U.S. market by 2019 and as a little taster, the Chinese present a brand new EV study at the Auto Show in Detroit. Apart from wing doors, it also includes AR features for passengers.

The Enverge Concept is a futuristic SUV with wing doors and a 71 kWh battery. GAC says it lasts for a range of up to 600 kilometres and the series version may charge said power pack inductively.

The electric car has a combined output of 177 kW (240 PS) delivered by an all-wheel electric drive system.

Apart from the wing doors, the design of the Enverge EV resembles a Toyota rather than a Tesla and GAC says it targets younger consumers in the States. They may indeed like the Formula 1 inspired steering wheel although the EV’s top speed is 160 kph so nothing close to an electric racer even. Only the dashboard shows some Tesla traits as it is a huge display.

But there is more tech on the back seat, where passengers may put on panoramic augmented reality (AR) goggles that overlay the outside world with information displayed onto the opaque windows of the Enverge EV.
