BMW wants to debut iNEXT already in 2018

BMW has been working on its electric and autonomous concept SUV for some time and it looks like the showcase of the whole new platform is to happen this year – way before the iNEXT’s official debut in 2021.

The German carmaker wants to allow a first glimpse at its iNext before the year’s end and the concept will precede what may be called a whole new era. The planned SUV will be electric and autonomous and is the first to utilise a whole novel architecture.

The news follows a report from Auto Express that quotes Alexander Kotouc, head of product management at BMW i. According to him, the iNext will be an SUV the size of the BMW X5.

The platform it introduces for the first time, allows BMW to built conventionally powered vehicles as well as to incorporate all forms of electrification with electric motors on each axle if wanted.

The iNext is conceived as all-electric car with battery sizes ranging from 60 – 120 kWh.
Kutouc also confirmed four power variants: 100 kW, 188 kW, 246 kW, and t 326 kW.

The iNext is one of twelve models BMW has scheduled until 2025.
