23 BYD electric buses run in Italy’s Piedmont region
With the delivery of the last 3 e-buses from a total order of 23, the Piedmont region now has Italy’s largest all-electric bus fleet says BYD. They serve in Novora and Turin.
The Italian towns of Turin and Novara have taken delivery of three electric buses from BYD so that there are now a total of 23 electric buses running in the area. BYD says that with the completion of said order, it now is the largest electric bus fleet in Italy.
The Piedmont Region had started the purchase back in 2014 when it decided to allocate resources from the Ministry of the Environment for air quality improvement through the purchase of electrically powered buses.
SUN and GTT of Turin joined this program by allocating some funds of their own. 20 electric buses went to GTT of Turin and 3 units were destined for SUN of Novara.
Isbrand Ho, Managing Director of BYD Europe said at the hand-over: “BYD is building its foundation in Europe with Europe’s largest fleet of electric buses having completed one million kilometres of zero pollution operation in London, the largest fleet of electric buses at a major international airport now over two years old at Schiphol Amsterdam and operators from the north of Sweden to Israel amongst our trusted customers.”
In Turin, students of the School of Painting of the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in the city created a graphic design for the buses which reflects the clean air spirit of the initiative.
