VW poaches battery expert Frank Blome from Daimler
Frank Blome will take the lead of Volkswagens ‘Center of Excellence Battery Cell’ from January, 1, 2018 after he had led Daimler’s subsidiary ACCUmotive and developed electric drives for Continental.
With VW planning to develop and launch 30 electric vehicles until 2025 as spelled out in its Roadmap E, the carmaker will need a lot of batteries and is thus setting up a dedicated unit. The ‘Center of Excellence Battery Cell’ in the German town of Salzgitter will be managed by Frank Blome, an engineer who had chaired both Daimler’s Accumotive as well as the Li-Tec battery GmbH previously and who had started his career at Continental.
For Volkswagen, the Salzgitter centre is to take care of every step of battery cell development and production, including procurement and quality control.
