VW and JAC may build electric UVs in China
Volkswagen may expand its venture with JAC in China beyond electric cars to build utility vehicles together. A declaration of intent has been signed.
Both VW and JAC agreed to deepen their cooperation to include the design, technology, product quality and development of multi-function vehicles. Only in June the two had formed a joint venture to develop and produce new energy vehicles for the People’s Republic. A first model is reportedly expected next year.
The venture for utility vehicles would affect both ICEs as well as hybrid and electric vehicles and would be owned equally by JAC and VW. The HQ would be set up in JAC’s home town of Hefei.
