Electric mini Renault for Asia – and other world regions
The French already have a prototype of the small and cheap electric car the alliance of Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi plans to launch in China. CEO Carlos Ghosn mentioned test rides in an interview recently.
The “Kei-car” is an electric variant of the small Kwid SUV. Ghosn also announced that the model may find its way onto the markets in India, Brazil, and the Middle East. In China, the electric compact can be expected by next year or latest by 2019 at a price point of 11,500 euros (we reported).
In September, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi allicance introduced a six year plan called Alliance 2022. The roadmap earmarks the creation of 12 all-electric models that shall utilise shared platforms and components and thus cover multiple segments. One of the alliance’s main issues is the reduction of EV battery costs.
