Toyota’s solid-state patent: The Japanese carmaker may be into hybrids at the moments but is advancing battery technology nonetheless as a new patent application in the U.S. shows. It is a solid-state battery with improved thermal stability through the addition of a “specific phosphate ester”, according to Toyota, that also describes various chemistry options.

3D printed Twizy look-alike: Korean design house Klio presents its ‘Open structure Mobility Concept,’ a small EV that can be customised through 3D-printing. The initial shape forms the core of the pilot model, at present a one seater but open to expansion for persons and purpose. No production plans are known.

Intelligent control: Austria has a new lab at Vienna’s technical university to research innovative control and monitoring of drive systems of electric and hybrid vehicles in particular. AVL List is the industrial partner while public funding was given by the Ministry for Science, Research and Business (BMWFW).
