Electric McLaren in the pipelines: CEO Mike Flewitt told PistonHeads that McLaren is working on an all-electric drivetrain, which the Brits want to integrate into an existing architecture. It could possibly be a limited edition Ultimate Series (P1 level) EV.

Electric buses from Hungary: According to non-official sources, Chinese manufacturer BYD has begun building an electric bus factory in Komárom in northern Hungary. Production could kick off as early as October 2016 with a yearly output of 100 units that will then be exported to western Europe.

Issues to launch in India: A planned consortium for the delivery of components for electric and hybrid vehicles has been pushed back. The launch was originally planned for July 15th, but Ford now pulled out, citing financial reasons and partners Mahindra, Tata Motors, and Maruti Suzuki are left out in the rain. There have so far not been any official statements on the issue.

Driving the Audi Q7 e-tron: Autocar took the plug-in SUV for a spin. And while they applaud the combination of a diesel engine and electric motor, the Audi couldn’t quite convince, also because one needs “be able to charge it frequently to get anywhere near the claimed economy.” For anyone who has set their heart on a plug-in hybrid they recommend the Volvo XC90 T8 instead.
