Solar streets to power e-cars: German RWTH Institute for roads is working on generating energy using photovoltaic modules that are integrated into to streets’ surface. The modules are some 6mm thick are protected through nonslip, non-breakable glass and are said to last 25 years. A fist demonstrator has been installed.

Permanent magnets using less rare earths is what the Fraunhofer IWM says it developed, using an in-house simulation process. The process systematically switches atoms of a known materials. 128 material combinations showed promising characteristics and use less rare earths, which also cuts costs.

Electrovaya has signed a deal with an unnamed OEM for the delivery of battery modules, Li-ion battery management systems and related services. The deal runs three years and is to generate as much as 80m dollars in revenue during that time period.
