Audi manager signs with Tesla: Peter Hochholdinger, the former Senior Director of Production of Audi’s A4, A5, and Q5, joined the EV team as VP of Vehicle Production. He will be responsible for speeding up Model S and Model X production and for getting the Model 3 manufacturing programme off the ground. Hochholdinger replaces Greg Reichow, who left Tesla earlier this month. Josh Ensign, ex Tesla VP of manufacturing, has not been replaced yet.

Bolt production kick-off? GM previously announced that it would begin building its all-electric Chevy Volt from October of this year at the Orion assembly plant, but has since removed the news from its website. Hybrid Cars asked the manufacturer to confirm those plans, but the latter simply referred to the previously announced timeline of “late 2016.”

Phideon spotted: Though the VW Phideon is destined for the Chinese market, the luxury limousine was spotted on the streets of Hamburg, Germany, earlier this week. Why the vehicle was in the area remains unclear. The Phideon is said to be available as a plug-in hybrid in China.

Plans for China: Carlos Ghosn, CEO of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, expressed the need for both low and high spec vehicles for the Chinese market. Nissan will be producing a low spec EV with its Chinese partner Dongfeng, while Renault will launch its Freelance Electric in China, which falls more in the high spec category.
