BMW’s EV portfolio update: According to German magazine auto motor und sport, the new i3 with increased range will be available by 2018. Older models will be retrofitted, while the carmaker may continue to offer a variant with the old battery pack for a lower base price. With the i8 Spyder, BMW will also offer the i8 with a new body variant. The BMW i5 is to arrive 2020.

E-SUV from Qoros? The Chinese carmaker says it wants to add an all-electric offroad vehicle to its portfolio, which according to Qoros boss Phil Murtaugh could already become available in January. He unfortunately did not announce any further details.

911 spy shots: Autocar has published first images of the next generation Porsche 911, which will hit dealerships sometime in 2018/2019 and will be available as a hybrid. It looks nearly the same from the outside. Only the extended wheel arches hint at the additional electric motor. Porsche also considers an all-electric version.

Volvo S90 to arrive in January: The Swedish carmaker will officially lift the veil of its limousine at the Detroit Motor Show. The vehicle features a similar powertrain to the XC90 SUV and is said to also be available with the latter’s 290 kW plug-in hybrid technology.

Porsche wins WEC drivers’ title: Drivers Mark Webber, Timo Bernhard und Brendon Hartley climbed the podium in Bahrain. The number 17 Porsche 919 Hybrid had a series of mechanical issues during the race, still coming in fifth. The sister Porsche finished first, knocking the Audi team off its top spot and securing Porsche the overall win.

Longer Mercedes for China: At the Auto Guangzhou, the German carmaker presented the long-wheelbase version of the plug-in hybrid S 500 and C 350 e for the Chinese market. The Mercedes C 350 e will be the first Mercedes plug-in to be produced in China.
