Kia bets on alternative drivetrains: Kia plans to ramp up its electric portfolio. Kia’s first dedicated hybrid Nrio will launch next year, as well as the Optima PHEV. A total of eleven partially electric models are said to come until 2020. This includes a production version of a Kia FCV with a range of 800 kilometres.

Connected electric scooter: Barcelona-based start-up Scutum and Cellnex Telecom are jointly working on IoT-connected scooters. A first model will be on display at Smart City Expo. Under the cooperation agreement, the partners are also developing on a system that helps dealers diagnose vehicles remotely first.

e-tron Ultra: EPA officially rated the Audi A3 e-tron at an electric range of 17 miles. That is for the so-called ultra version, the A3 sportsback featuring ultra-low rolling resistance tires, which add one mile of electric range. The A3 e-tron is available in small numbers in the U.S.

Kia EV recall: 256,459 Soul, among them electric models, have to return to the garages in the U.S. The Korean carmaker fears that a fault with the steering gear that may lead to total loss of steering. The recall is preemptive as no accidents have been reported yet.
