Roding Roaster Electric: Siemens will show a wheel motor powered electric version of the Roding Roadster featuring a 19.4 kWh Li-ion battery at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The roadster, developed in cooperation with Siemens Corporate Technology, features a very efficient braking system that comes without a mechanical brake at the rear axle.

More powerful Formula E: Formula E race cars will boast 170 kW in the upcoming season, instead of the previous 150 kW. Battery manufacturer Williams Advanced Engineering said it could provide the power boost and tests in Donington confirmed this. The increased power should make the ePrix faster and more competitive.

No liquid batteries: Ambri, a start-up out of MIT, says it cannot keep its promise and produce cheap liquid batteries. These were slated to revolutionize utility storage of electricity. Ambri also announced that it will reduce staff by 25 percent.

Universal onboard charger: Researchers at the University of Maryland Energy Research Center are hoping to design an onboard charger for EVs that is compatible with all charging, cheaper, and easier to install than current options. The project is funded with 460,000 dollars.
