EVs to ascend into space?

A Canadian company has been granted a patent for what it calls a ‘space elevator’, which would reach about 12 miles above the Earth’s surface and is designed to reduce the cost of rocket launches by up to 30 percent. Here’s the kicker: The space tower could serve as a track for electric vehicles to travel up and down carrying about 10 tons of payload.
