Landfill gas into H2: At the BMW facility in Spartanburg, a research project by the South Carolina Research Authority (SCRA) has drawn to a close. The conversion of landfill gas into hydrogen to be used for fuel cell fork lifts has shown that no efficiency losses occurred compared to industrially produced H2. A business case was made.

P.O.E.T.S., short for Power Optimization for Electro-Thermal Systems Center, is an 18.5-million research centre being built in Illinois. There, researchers develop vehicle electrical systems that are more powerful, efficient and heat-resistant, which could lead to longer-range EVs. Toyota and Bosch have a stake in the project, as do numerous universities.
