Golf plug-in with gullwing doors: VW used the annual Wörthersee festival in Austria to unveil the Golf GTE Sport. The concept features a plug-in hybrid drivetrain with two electric motors and a combined output of 400 hp, a carbon fiber body and gullwing doors. The Golf GTE Sport will most likely not go into serial production, however.

BYD e6 to get increased range: By the end of the year, BYD will offer its e6, often used as a taxi, with considerably more range. The 82 kWh battery pack features cells with an increased energy density and will allow the EV to go 250 miles (400 km) on one charge, while the weight of the car will only increase by 40 kilos compared to the current model.

Honda begins Shuttle sales in Japan: Honda Motor has launched its new, compact Shuttle, which is now available for sale across Japan. The station wagon is available in two hybrid variants, the Hybrid X and Hybrid Z.
