“Our experience might not work in countries with a strong automobile industry. We succeeded in increasing electric car sales, because we kept high taxes on regular cars and cut taxes on electric cars.”
Norway’s Minister of Transportation Ketil Solvik-Olsen on how and if his country might serve as a model for others. He also pointed out Norway’s unique position of having plenty of hydroelectricity at its disposal that can greenly power the EV boom.

“I think more OEMs have to come into this field. It cannot be just one OEM selling one vehicle. Only then will it lead to more awareness. Today, people do not know about EVs and whether it’s only Mahindra selling or Tata selling, there’s no awareness. Tomorrow if there are six OEMs who all talk about EVs, promote EVs, then everybody will benefit from it. So, I would like more competition here!”
This is Dr. Pawan Goenka, Executive Director of Mahindra & Mahindra, practically begging for more competition on the Indian EV market to simply get it going.
