deutsche-accumotiveDaimler increases battery production: Despite closing down its production of lithium cells, the carmaker is expanding production capacities for complete battery systems in Kamenz, Germany. Daimler is investing 100 million euros (125m USD) in its Deutsche ACCUmotive subsidiary, saying the business is competitive and profitable. A third production hall will be completed mid-2015.

Hybrid electric motorcycle: Researchers of the National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan have developed a battery-powered motorcycle that also features a fuel cell and hydrogen tank. The hybrid electric bike called “Fei Ma (Pegasus) No.1” just concluded its maiden voyage.

Rally Peugeot electrified: Stohl Racing presented its newly developed EV as part of the programme “rally-e.” The Peugeot 207 S2000 features two electric motors, allowing for a proud 400 kW and 880 Nm of torque. The car can go from zero to 100 km/h in just three seconds and features a battery that can be changed in under five minutes with a specially developed trailer mounted lift.

Emission hybrid: The Japanese company YGK has developed the EER (exhaust energy recovery) hybrid system, which turns a turbine with exhaust gas coming from the engine and generates electricity to power a motor and assist the engine. The system allegedly cuts fuel consumption by around ten percent and was tested in a Jaguar XJR-15 from the early 90s.
