Dramatic Formula E debut in Beijing: In its inaugural race on Saturday, the new racing series could not have had a better start. 75,000 spectators followed the 20 electric racers going around Olympic Park. Because all cars are the same, it came down to the drivers and their energy strategy. The race was tense till the end, when leading Nicolas Prost caused a spectacular crash with Nick Heidfeld in the last corner of the race. Beneficiary was Lucas Di Grassi, who won the first ever Formula E race for the Audi Sport ABT team.

Mercedes hybridised: According to German AutomobilWoche, head of development Thomas Weber said the carmaker wants to develop ten plug-in hybrid models until 2017. The C- and E-Class, as well as off-road vehicles, coupés and convertibles are on the list for new drivetrains. Until 2020, production numbers are said to reach six-digits and the plug-in could become as everyday as the petrol car.

Audi’s Q-cars: German Autobild reports on rumours once again that Audi will heavily electrify its Q-range. Before 2018, at least the next generations of the Q3, Q5 and Q7 will come with plug-in hybrid drivetrains. The A2Q might even be fully electric with a range of 500 kilometres.

The Mercedes B-Class Electric Drive will receive its first update before deliveries in Germany have even started. The face-lifted 2015 model, which will be shown at the Paris Motor Show in October, can be ordered from November 3rd. Certain details such as the price are still unknown.
